Block Breaker – Asteroid Smash

This game was supposed to be a simple block breaker project. Quite honestly, I was gearing up for laser defender and wanted to shoot some asteroids. Though, when I realized that the project was more of a block themed game, I decided to stick with the original plan and made the blocks into something a little less conventional. Each of the asteroids in the game are made up of full and half blocks fashioned to look like the surface of asteroids. By varying the opacity on the sprites, we were able to give the block arrangements the look and feel of asteroid clusters.

Unfortunately, this was a group project gone wrong. We started out with three team members and ended with only two… so I ended up filling in the work that would have been done by the missing team member.

For this game, I created the UI, Level 1 and Level 3. Alexis was in charge of level 2. You can see more of his work here: Alexis’s Portfolio

Story text at the start of Level 1
We added story text at the beginning of each level

It was a lot of fun making sure that story was added to each level. To resolve this, we placed a bool that turned off the story text when the player’s “start” action was triggered.
